Amenities and facilities
Within easy commuter distance of Bristol City Centre, the village of Backwell lies on the A370 approximately 7 miles south west from Bristol city centre, 3.5 miles from Bristol International Airport, and 1.5 miles from Nailsea Town centre and with a mainline intercity train station Nailsea/Backwell. It includes the hamlets of Backwell Common, Backwell Green, Farleigh, Church Town and West Town. The village has a long history, appearing in the Domesday Book in 1086 with the name ‘Bacoile’ meaning ‘The well back on the hill’.
With a population of around 5,900 Backwell offers its residents a wide range of amenities such as doctors, dentists, pharmacy, convenience stores, post office, vets, newsagents, food restaurants, take away food, Off Licence, public houses and lots more. There is a leisure complex providing swimming pool and squash courts. The local rail station provides mainline trains along the intercity network with direct trains to Bristol, Bath, Reading and London and links to the West Country and North.

Backwell Secondary School has an excellent reputation and one of the finest state schools in North Somerset Area. Both Westleigh Infants and Backwell Junior School and Fairfield Independent primary have excellent Outstanding Ofsted results as do all the pre-school educational facilities available.
